BEST OF ULTRA DLC
ABOUT THIS MOD:
This mod is a replacement for Bethesda's
official 58GB Ultra HighRes DLC. It contains only the best HD textures from the
DLC, those that actually improves quality, and leaves out the rest. A total of
6GB, instead of 58GB, providing the same image quality.

Installation:
Install this mod instead of Bethesda's official Ultra HighRes DLC. Add the files
one by one to NMM and install as usual.
PLEASE READ:
The mod comes as "loose files". Meaning, the textures have not yet been packed
into BA2 files. This will be done later in the guide. Some of these files will
be overwritten by other mods, which is why this mod has not been pre-packed.
After installation, the game might get some stutter. That will however be
completely eliminated once all textures get packed at the end of the guide, and
you will get better performance compared to Bethesda's Ultra DLC.
If you already installed Bethesda's official Ultra High Resolution DLC:
You can simply delete it or move it to a temporary location.
1 - Go to the Fallout 4 game-folder, and open the "Data" folder.
2 - Create a new folder, for example "UltraDLC - Backup".
3 - Move the Ultra High Resolution DLC files to that folder.
*Files to move: "DLCUltraHighResolution.esm", and "DLCUltraHighResolution -
Textures01.ba2" to "DLCUltraHighResolution - Textures16.ba2".
A total of 17 files.
How it is possible to get the same image
quality from this 6GB mod vs. the official 58GB DLC:
The textures in Bethesda's Ultra High Resolution DLC are not very well
proportioned. Small objects, like bullets or cigarette-packs, are given the same
texture size as for big objects like walls or vehicles. This make absolutely no
sense, as the smaller objects will never show on screen in a way that fully uses
such big textures. This creates a huge memory waste and longer loading times,
without any quality improvement. With a 4096x4096 texture size for a bullet,
even when compressed, the size is about 50MB, counting both defuse, normal and
specular texture maps. For an object of that size, a 1BM texture would give the
exact same image quality on the screen. Besides the one-size-for-all waste, many
of the textures literally looks like they were made by stretching a regular 1k
or 2k texture, up to the 4k size. This makes even less sense, as those textures
now require 4 times as much memory and loading time compared to the original
size, while image quality stays the same. Exactly same. - All in all, the Ultra
DLC was free, and it does improve some textures, but 52GB out of the 58GB was
just a waste. I have handpicked the good quality textures from the DLC, those
that actually improves in-game graphics, and packed them into this mod.
