GAME INFO
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is a first-person
horror video game developed by Headfirst Productions and published by Bethesda
Softworks. The game was released in 2005 for Xbox and PC, and is based on the
H.P. Lovecraft short story "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" and the novella "The
Shadow Out of Time" as well as the role-playing game Call of Cthulhu. The game
was critically acclaimed for its story, atmosphere, and gameplay but also faced
criticism for some of its technical issues.
The gameplay of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is a mix of
first-person shooter, stealth, and adventure elements. Players take on the role
of Jack Walters, a private investigator who is investigating a series of strange
events in the fictional town of Innsmouth. Players must navigate through levels,
using a combination of weapons and stealth to take out enemies. The game also
features a sanity meter, which depletes as the player witnesses terrifying
events or comes into contact with creatures from the Cthulhu Mythos. This causes
the player's vision to become distorted and can lead to hallucinations.
The game's graphics were praised for their use of realistic lighting and
detailed character models. The game's environments are also highly detailed,
featuring a mix of gothic and industrial settings that are true to the source
material. The game's characters are also highly detailed, with realistic
animation and expressive facial features. The game also features a unique art
style that sets it apart from other games in the genre.
The development of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth was led by
Headfirst Productions, a studio known for its work on other horror games like
the Dead Reckoning: Sleight of Murder. The game's development was not without
its challenges, with the team facing a number of technical difficulties and a
tight deadline to release the game. But despite these challenges, the game was
able to capture the atmosphere and tone of the source material very well.
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth was released to generally positive
reviews from critics, with many praising the game's story, atmosphere, and
gameplay. The game's graphics, art style, and sound design were also highly
praised. However, the game also faced criticism for some of its technical
issues, such as its poor artificial intelligence and some bugs.
Overall, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is a game that is worth
playing for fans of the horror genre. The game's story, atmosphere, and gameplay
make it a memorable experience that will stick with players long after they've
finished it. The game's sanity meter and the way it affects the player's vision
also adds a lot to the game's atmosphere. The game's technical issues, however,
were cited as major drawbacks, but they do not detract from the overall
experience. The game's modding community is also active and many fan-made mods
have been released, which adds to the longevity of the game.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, is the most recent game based on the
H.P. Lovecraft fantasy/horror universe. It follows the novel, The Shadow over
Innsmouth, which is a detective mystery story. It revolves around a strange cult
in a small town in the early 1920's. There has been many games based on various
H.P. Lovecraft novels and books, and a new game is on the horizon very soon.

The most noticeable previous games based on the same novel as Corners of the
Earth, are "The Legacy: Realm of Terror", "Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet"
and "Prisoner of Ice". These games are definitely worth checking out if you like
the H.P. Lovecraft universe.
All these previous games are adventure games. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of
the Earth is the first game that is equally focusing on adventure and action.
